Thank you for your response! I think with our current government there are still things we can do! Capital can be allocated to renewable sources as opposed to non renewable. Although these investments may underperform, it will support renewable businesses far into the future. This is something anyone with money to invest can do.
The legislation fight can go all the way down to your municipal government! It doesn't have to be on a federal or state scale. One example is allowing profit seeking companies to experiment with alternative forms of transit such as electric scooters or other EVs. These methods of transportation are far more efficient than cars!
My point is, the onus is not 100% on the higher levels of government. Big oil can only influence the government because people continue to enjoy their stock increase and dividends every year. When capital is allocated elsewhere, you will see change. In fact, we are already seeing this change happening today: Bloomberg
